Kannan was elected to the School Board in 2015 and has held positions of increasing responsibilities including Chair of the Finance Committee, Vice President and most recently President of the Board.

On the Issues:

 

1. Fiscal Responsibility and good governance
 

     a. Successfully balanced a budget of over $220M; Allocated funds to the most

          important items while ensuring any cuts were furthest from the kids

         

     b. Enforced that States allowable rate for tax increases, justified by wage

         inflation, is not a target the district should aim to hit

 

2. Preparing children for success

      a. Implemented a 1:1 Chromebook initiative

 

      b. Supported creation of Addiction and Mental Health Task Force

 

      c. Actively evaluating STEM as an elementary special & cyber learning options

3.  Administration/Organization

 

      a. Improved communications and transparency. Committee meetings are

          recorded and published, Remind platform launched, Website updated

 

      b. Pennsbury named National School District of Character

​

      c. Hired Superintendent, Business Administrator and various positions

​

4. Community Leadership

 

      a. Actively listens to community members at school board meetings,

          community forums and small group settings

 

     b. Attends school events and celebrates student success

4. Infrastructure

 

      a. Conducting a comprehensive study of all our facilities to include overdue

          renovations and high school campus options

 

      b. Implemented GPS in school busses to alleviate transportation challenges
